hi again, doing my 4 feet tank tomorrow.
so i'd like to ask for last minute advise.
this is how i'm gonna do it.
buy christmas moss from chan, staple it to my oceanfree black styrofoam background.
pour in 6 bags of jbl base fert, slope it thicker behind.
lay 40 kg of gravel, slope it such that the foreground plants can reach the base fert.
connect eheim 2013 to co2 reactor and hydor prime 2 to surface skimmer at each end of the tank.
    place drift wood.
fill water till half tank and plant?
then put up the hood and fans?
    sigh...
still haven't bought my 40 kg of black gravel, lights, fans, base fert, wood, plants and collected my co2 tank...
hope to do it all tomorrow.[]

    please comment?
    anything i missed out?
anything i can look out for?[]

Just wondering if 40kg is enough for a 4ft. I suspect you might need more... I think I used about 4 bags of 22.5kg for my 5ft tank.

Make sure your gravel is at least 1 inch thick. Don't worry about the foreground plants... they will grow the roots to reach the base fert.

Some of the black gravel available in the LFS are quartz... they have sharp edges and points which can harm fishes (usually their mouths or barbels) that forage in the gravel for food (e.g. cories). So check on that.

    2 Filters might be a over-doing it for a 4 foot tank.

Fill until the water just covers up to mid-ground, and you can start planting the foreground plants and tougher short/midground plants like crypts and anubias first. Then fill to half to plant the rest.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Allen, it should be enough... his is a 4ft by 1.5ft... the cross-section is slightly more then half of yours (if yours is 5ft by 2ft).

If I'm not wrong, 1 bag of 22.5kg enough already... but don't take my word for it. Sherchoo can comment. He just set up his 4ft tank.

Ryan, do a visual guesstimate. When you go to the shop, try to visualise how thick of gravel the 22.5 kg bag will get you.

Yeah, got you PM and email. I replied by email.

Was it to you that I promised a red lotus? It's still there waiting.
