    Hi guys.
Was today thinking of starting a small (abt 18"Lx10"Wx12"H) planted tank. is a tank this small capable of being a healthy planted tank? is it too small & shallow?
Just wondering what you guys pay for lighting? NO lights and MH lights?
I was shocked today to discover my lfs selling, ON SALE, an MH for a reef tank for £500...! £500 man!
not sure abt the NO lights..but if i do make a small planted tank, i think thats what lighing i will be using, NO.
How much light you think i would need for that tank? Wouldnt want anything to high-light loving, but would like a nice forground plant, and maybe some riccia (unless that is too light-loving?).
    Thanks for any replies,
    James

Riccia loves a lot of light... and sorry for asking, wat is NO light?? a compact fluoroscent of about 18watts to 24 watts should do the trick for a tank your size....

Over here in SG, we pay about S$50 for a PL light of about 24watt and 2 ft in length...

Being a short tank, 3W/G should be good enough. You'll be limited to shorter stem plants or rosette plants. Stem plants will takeover that height really quick. Else, you can let them become emergent, but then they'll shed their submersed leaves.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    James,

3W/g would be best suited if you want to keep light demanding plants like Riccia.
    Cheers!!

    Ok..3 watts per gallon..
    NO = Normal Output
Can still have 3 watts per gallon even if with normal output tubes?

Your tank is about 8.9 US Gallons, probably 8 US Gallons of actual water volume. You need to get about 24 Watts of FL or PL lights.

    What is PL?
Im presuming FL is Flourescent Lighting? If so, that is what i will be using...
    Thanks,

    Opps, sorry. Singapore terminology 101:

FL - Fluorescent lights. Usually the single tube one.
PL - A.K.A. Power Compacts, Compact Fluorescents. You know these terms?
