WC is the fastest way. If you have a matured filter/tank there ammonia is rather controllable via alechim's suggestions of ' feed less, remove all dying and decomposing things.'
Will do=D
thanks=D
water change is the fastest to bring ammonia down once you detect it, however do reduce feeds if any. Ammonia doesn't come from just uneaten food, it also comes from dead leaves of plants.
hmm actually i changed my carbon filter from my hang on filter to this Super filter( ocean free) cause at the back it says it'll help reduce ammonia levels. but now im still facing with slight ammonia problems & was think to get some BB liquid like what alechim said earlier on.
should i? & does anyone know the costs per bottle of those?
are you saying that the issue only come up after you change the carbon filter media? what media do you use in the filter beside carbon? Do you have any plant in your tank?
No actually its my fault for rushing into putting shrimps. i did only a 4 day cycling with 5 guppies.. & only just yesterday i got my test kits. Ph 6.5 Temp 26 nitrate 0 . ammonia .2mg now. plants i do have Us fissiden, ricca, driftwood with moss ( buy from shop) few floating plants. & some other plants that im not very sure of.
I did the change of filter media after i found out there was ammonia inside..
Now that i have removed my carbon. its only left with the "super filter" & a bio plate from the hang on itself. cant have any others as there's place constrain in the filter.
also i have an expired bottle( june 07) of Freshwater nitrifying bacteria which my dad passed to me..

If that the case, it is normal, your tank have not fully cycled yet. What substrate did you use?
Not sure which hand on back filter you used, but it sound very small and it might not be enough for 1.5ft x 1ft. Filter with bigger container to hold filter media is always better
im using Ada... but i gotten the BB liquid already=D
so im gonna let the water run & test the water again tomorrow hope everything would do fine =D
The size of your tank and ADA soil is aggravating the ammonia situation.
Do more frequent WC but smaller changes so you don't disrupt the good bacteria too.

I finally uploaded an avatar and Cupid is dead!!!
So you already have shrimps + guppies in your tank already?
Atm now i only have shrimps + snails inside....
argh.. hope the water changes + BB liquid will do the job><
Smaller but more frequent WC.
And add some BB as you do in smaller dosage so you don't waste it.
Some of it should survive the WC by "hanging on" to the filter media or substrate.
You can also add plants like difformis or hygrophila polysperma (I hope I spelt those right... ).

hmm those plants are beneficial to lowering down ammonia levels?
lol just nice i have those in my Fish tank=D
yes because those plant is absorbing ammonia for them to grow. Not only difformis or hygrophila polysperma, all plant are absorbing ammonia to grow. It just that this plant is fast growing, thus absorb faster. You can put other fast growing plant.
Alright thanks for the wonderful info on it =D
Lastly be patience, Rome is not build in 1 day. I am still cycling my tank after roughly 2 months. Reason being I am trying out alot of things to get my tank balance. You can say I am doing it the hard way by inviting algae etc into my tank and trying to figure out how to clear them haha
