    Hellow all

I wanna ask about shrimp, actually im intrested in Aquascaping.
Anyone suggest me to put the Taiwan Shirmp in the tank.

So i decide to buy a shirmp for that.
But when i ask the seller, he just say "this is shrimp for Fish food.
Just ordinary shrimp, a transparant and small.

Hmmm that shrimp can be use for aquascaping?
for eating the Algae or something ?

    thanks

I think the fish food types sometimes have long claws and can catch and feed on your fishes.

Fish food refers to larger fish like arrowanas

That shrimp you are refering to is "glass shrimp / ghost shrimp" . They can grow to 2 inch size. Like what Bro Savant said, they will snag any fry in your tank for food.

To answer the question, if it is ghost/glass shrimp, they do not eat algae but would compete for fish food or clear leftover food. Also, tend to be aggressive especially if they are large.

Actually, glass/ghost shrimp belong to the Macrobrachium species and it can be hard to tell in particular what species the shrimp you have as juveniles can look alike. Maximum size of Macrobrachium spp. can range from 2 inch to 15 inches. As they are often used as feeders, they are not given enough chance to live long enough to find out exactly how big they can grow.

The glass/ghost shrimp found in Singapore LFS seems to be generally the dwarf type, although you can never tell if some other species has been accidentally mixed with them. And the glass/ghost shrimp from other countries may not be same species as those from Singapore.

For aquascaping, Yamato, cherry or Malayan shrimp are normally used.

Ghost shrimps usually wont attack other fishes as they were used as feeders for arowana, but most shrimps such as yamotos have been known to "torpedo" sick fishes.

Colourful aquarium sells a shrimp known as the "taiwan shrimp" in the market and it is different from the normal "ghost shrimps". For a start, they are smaller, more colourful and do eat your algae. They are also not a brackish water shrimp, so they will survive well in a freshwater tank. Lastly, they are tank safe community shrimps for a planted tank.
