I read from diane walstad book one. also have doubts myself as to how well wax paper decomposes. anyway I think the idea is to use a packet of fert in wax paper as only a means of getting it below your substrate, don't think its meant to be very nice and neat to give an even layer.anyhow the fert will penetrate the substrate so no worries, just scatter a few packets arnd? donno just my 2 rupees worth.

My mum uses this trick for he lily pot which the aunty at the nursury uses... she takes the ferts she wants to insert underwater (chicken s.hit in her case) and wraps it in newspaper to form a tube.... then just stuffs the whole tube in the soil... should work for fishtanks, though I guess there could be some concern as to what newspaper inks decompose into...

    I just use sh!t.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

I don't think its wax paper. wax paper is kind of err hard to decompose.

probably normal unbleached paper eg: a brown paper bag.

i can't imagine bits and pieces of rotting paper floating around in the tank.
no thanks, looks like i've to remove the gravel or use jobe sticks.

    Ryan,

DECIDE how thick you want the base fert to be.
CALCULATE how much more you need.
    Then go buy.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:

    hahaha

    ok, ryan, tell u what
you take out your wallet, see how much money u got to spare, then divide it by the cost of the fert
that will give u the number of bags to get

the above may sound a little shallow, but i find that more fert never hurts
the more you put in, the longer the period that you can enjoy the tank before having to either redo the tank or add supplements to the gravel
