IMO, they r almost the same, jus another brand in another package and perharps they 'own' mixture of compound in it.. but I have nothing against branded stuff like dennerle.. I used them myself.. previously I used a brand call evergreen.. which is good IMO... u have to really them out to compare but its quite impossible
if u have the budget, y not... another brand u might as consider is Bioplast
hmmmz how about sera?
is it cost effective as comapred to jbl?
cuz i'm tired of waiting already...
ryan, just try it.. reason y we always recommend JBL, is the price.. good and cheaper than some other brands
then how about quantity?
i'll be getting base fert from petmart, and i don't trust their judgement...
so do i go by weight or what?
what is yr tank size by the way?
4 feet...
some guy, not ben at petmart said 2 tubs of sera...
enough?
alamak ryan, calculate the volume you need lah, length × width × 5 (recommend 2-inch = 5cm base fert, AT LEAST). The JBL ferts comes in 5 litre packs (read properly, it is NOT in KG but L).
Don't think two tubs is going to be enough at all. My 4ft "pond" which is only 1ft wide, used up 7 packs of JBL although I did make the fert very thick, around 8-10cm.

Ryan,
Mind telling what is the quantity of a tub of sera?
p/s: A word of advice... take it easy... be patient and slowly enjoy doing your tank. Don't be in such a hurry or you'll might start making mistakes which you could regret in the near future.
dun put base fert can anot ah? i too lazy to dig up the **** infested sand just to put fert under it.....
my tank does not have base fert. however, i do add horti sticks heavy root feeders. think to plant glosso and make they creep, you'll need base fert.

Cardinal: one trick is to use wax paper to wrap the fert and stuff the paper underneath your substrate and let the paper slowly decompose leaving the fert there!
hmm? thats a new thing i've heard.
does it really work?
i mean how do you spread the whole paper evenly?
