Did some rescaping a few days back. So far the plants are doing quite ok except the new 'Bukit Timah' moss which is invaded by hair algae. The empty spot at the foreground used to E.tenellus which was vacated to allow E.tiandra to expand.

I do agree the back looks empty. I'm expecting the E. Marble queen, E. oreintal to grow big. I'm also planning to put a E.sp plant in the center back area. Would have gone to Teo's last weekend but called for an urgent overseas trip to Indonesia.
    Cheers!!

On the contrary, I find the back slightly empty enhances the composition. But maybe thats just me, you know la, beauty is pretty subjective. heee

    Hi Sherwin,

I think once the plants at the back grow a bit, it'll look really great! Actually it's quite nice as it is , more of an Amano look now.

E.tiandra is such a nice foreground plant. I'm really tempted to give it a try.

Your b.japonica looks quite packed there on the left. I had problems with mine starting to push upwards and looking more like large middleground plants when I packed them too much, had to rip them all out eventually []

Just a theory.... you can probably prevent Blyxa from raising of the substrate, or at least delay it by regular pruning. Simply pluck off the side shoots and allow light to reach the lower leaves.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:

I had some in my 5ft long long ago... but to cut a long story short, my baby came along, and took all my time away (good excuse huh) and then algae came a while later and smothered everything else... followed by disease, etc etc etc... result? haha one year later I rip out almost everything and restart. [] []

p/s I'm impressed you still remember I had hottonia in my tank... wah good memory

    Hi Sherchoo,

Where did you get the "xue hua" (what is the latin name, btw)?
I failed to grow them the last time. I would like to try it again.

No liquid fert, how do you manage the water chemistry balance? By more regular water change?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hottonia inflata aka "xue hua"

The reason I'm not dosing liquid fert is due to the attack by hair algae. The only nutrients the plants get from is the base fert and fish poop.

    Hey Sherwin,

So are you supplementing at all with tablets/root tabs? or just completely based on your initial substrate?

    Allen,
I did stuck in some Jobbes sticks in for selected plants e.i. Echin sp. and the lotus. The rest have to get the nutrients from the base fert (and fish poop).
    Cheers!!
