Beside Alexander Hospital, are there any other good places, for beginner, to shoot butterfly?

Just wondering what is the connection between place and beginner shooter??? because no matter where the place, butterfly will still behave like butterfly. Whether we are beginner or advanced..we still go to the same places to shoot butterfly. Sorry...i am a bit confused about the question...

I, personally think there's no such thing as beginner butterfly shooting since butterflies for one, are very flighty whether you are beginner or expert like Simon. Takes a long lens plus lots of patience, some luck perhaps.

The best place you could go is butterfly hill at Pulau Ubin. That's your best bet.

Obviously I wasn't thinking straight when I said "beginner". I do not mean the butterfly stop, pose, say cheese and "kacha" . I know how difficult it is to get a good and clean shot of butterfly.

Ok, what I really mean is a place where you can find reasonably amount of butterfly for you to shot

For a beginner who like to practise, I always recommend AH. You get more species/number of butterfly in a single location and with patience you will get more luck when compared to hunting them down in the nature reserves. Don't waste time at the sentosa butterfly park, the background you get is usually the netting behind which spoilts the entire shot. You can also try Toa Payoh Town park. However, with the recent rain pour around Singapore, it is safer in AH

    Loke,
I also want to know where I can find butterfly who will stop and pose for me, but I guess that happens only in my dreams.
Anyway I started photography at the end of last year and went for a few butterfly shoot and I can tell you that it's best that you go with a mentor who teach you the ropes and where to shoot.
If you were to go alone or with a couple of friends, best go to places where there's easy access, like AH or TPTP, going to Macritchie is fine, but be prepared for some trekking.
Best bet is to join a butterfly group, beside sharing their knowledge can also share equipment

Thanks for the recommendations. So, AX, TPTP and butterfly hill Pulau Ubin are good for "beginner" .

I went to AX this morning and I managed to find a butterfly that stay stationary . Who say you can't find one ?

I approached the "special one" gingerly, all the while eyes fixed on it via the view finder, and snapped, snapped, snapped. But wait a minute, something was strange about this butterfly as it stand on its............................tail!

Holly cow! it was lifted and eaten by a spider (crab spider, I suppose).

It is truly a fearsome predator!

Before I left AX, I went to the same plant to check it out.The feasting was already over and it was sun bathing, and waiting for the next prey .

It is me or it is my screen. Your pics seems a bit on yellow side. Something on the white balance to work on?

Nice crab spider shot. Hmm ... should pay more attention on these flowers next time. The yellow tinge is probably cause by the morning sun right?

I am not too sure why it has a tinge of yellow. Perhaps because the spider is yellow, the butterfly is yellow, the flower is yellow/orange and the morning sunlight?
Or is it because I shot at Adobe RGB and then save as web?

Anyway, here are the remaining decent shots ( I hope I id the butterfly correctly)

    Cycad Blue

    Blue Grassy Tiger:

Purple Bush Brown (practising Kongfu )

    Phalanta phalantha phalantha (Leopard):

And, Doleschallia bisaltide australis (Autumn Leaf)??

Actually your crab spider shot could be adjusted by increasing the blue. That will take away some yellow tinge. Don't completely remove the yellow tinge though, that will change the mood. A bit of yellow tinge makes it feel warm.
