Hi all, my tank is currently experiencing a whitespot outbreak.

What kind of medication do you all think I should use?

I've heard positive opinions for waterlife protozin? But the problem is that I have expensive fishes in my tank! I've got 2 zebra otos inside! and 1 platinum cardinal tetra! So salt might not be an option here.

If I leave the lights on longer will it stress the fishes? because I need the temperature to hit 31 degrees. Or should I just get a heater? and roughly how much would it cost?

And how long will it take approximately to get rid of the disease? I've got an apistoworld order coming in next tuesday.....

i'll update here: the heater method with no medication seems to work well. i've taken the heater out after 11 days at 31-32 degrees and the white spot is all gone since 5 days ago with no repercussion. i didn't lose the fry too, which would have happened if i used medication.

Actually it will come back, if the fish is a huge amount of stress but the fish has a higher resistance to the white spot so it doesnt die as to comapred to when there was a first outbreak of white spot.

Hi all, then would leaving the lights on longer stress the fishes?

And how much would a heater cost roughly, for a 2 feet tank?

And are otos more sensitive to white spot than other fishes?

Sorry for asking too many questions.

@illuminae, after how many days of using the heater method did you see any noticeable effects? like reduction of white spots?

    thanks

then is it necessary to do a WC?

would it help to alleviate the problem?

Water change is good and should be done as when some white spots die they pollute the water. However from my views doing water change alone will not get rid of the problem it is only a temporary solution.

Best medication is probably not to use any as several of us have noticed regarding white spots. Water change would help couple with just a heater method would work well.
