Qurantine all your new fishes first.

I highly recommend that you get OxyCure. Throw in a teaspoon of the powder into the bag of Neons, let them bathe in the powder for 5 minutes before you put them into the tank. (that's, of course, after 30minutes of bag in water)

Once a week, I'll throw in 2 teaspoons of Oxycure to ensure that they don't get diseases.

There was once that many of my Neons get rotten fins and I know it's that dreaded Neon Diesease.

Instead of taking them out or pouring the medication, I throw in double dosage of Oxycure for 2 days

Viola! In 2 days, they are healed! Only 2 weak Neons died.

Just to be clear, something that affects the neon tetra may not always be the Neon Tetra Disease (NTD). So for some of the disease that affects neon tetras, well then there may be a cure.

However, there is no known cure for NTD. And as far as I know, this disease is not always limited to neon tetras only. Other tetras may get infected with NTD as well.

See Wikipedia, Neon tetra, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon_tetra (section 6, Disease) (as of Apr. 21, 2008, 09:35 GMT).

Actually if you go research on the web you'll read there's some suggestion that cardinals are resistant to NTD. However i've also read that cardinals are more sensitive to water quality vs neons.

What my 10 dead neons and 10 dead cardinals have taught me:
    1. Aquarium salt will kill more distressed neons that it saves
    2. water quality is the most important thing for tetra longevity
    3. A big group of tetras are more secure and less stressed when kept in large groups
    4. To see schooling, you'll need 6 or more tetras
    5. Ketapang leaves or blackwater extract seems to make tetras happier and more vibrant looking. The antibiotic properties of ketapang leaves seem to have put a stop to a string of deaths in my tank
    6. Neon tetras live naturally in soft acidic blackwater streams

    PF.
Now at Week 3 ownership of 50 healthy cardinals, 49 galaxies and 4 balloon rams

Depends on whether you're lazy or not!:P You can buy them from Qian Hu or you can get them for free along East Coast Park. There is one tree near Serangoon Central (diagonally facing the stadium). I think there is a topic on the ketapang leaves locations inside AQ.

Before you throw these leaves into the tanks, do note that these leaves were said to lower the PH so if the fishes you keep like alkaline water, might wanna consider carefully first!

By picking from East Coast you have informally joined the NEA parks organisation. Get from C328, from some thread I read they sell it.

Hi, do you know if Oxycure affects other fishes? Is it harmful to them? I'm thinking of getting it to protect my future cardinal investment!!! My goal is to rear them to a size as big as those at NA!!!

1 question, do cardinals grow bigger only when they are in a tank by themselves, meaning no other fish species?

No, adequate food supply and pristine water parameters will. From those photos I assume you are keeping them in a 3 footer? or 2? usually small space and alot of fish, with bad water conditions, they spread like wild fire...fish probably also have secondary infection.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.
