    Hi everyone,
I got myself a canon 50mm f1.8 MII and a set of 3 extension tubes by kenko.
Here's the results. Actually what I wanted to share was how amazing these extension tubes can be. The fries I shot was pretty small, 1 and 2 cm. The downside, focusing is very difficult.
    C&C welcomed

what magnification does the set up give you? you can measure it by take a pix of a ruler horizontally (aligned to the frame) at the minimum focusing distance.

    Hristo,
    Thanks.
    tcy,
well, the tubes are certainly cheaper than a macro lens.
Bought the set of 3 (12,20 and 36mm) at $175. They also have single tube at $80 (I think) each, 12 and 25mm.
    choy,
Thanks for the tip, will shoot the ruler this weekend.

I don't know Billy, wash the car?
Anyway, as choy suggested I shot a ruler and a couple of flowers
The ruler, using all 3 tubes, total length 68mm. Photo shows 16mm covering the whole screen. Only resized.

    The 2 flowers also using all 3 tubes. f16 1/250 ISO400

your 20D sensor is 22.5mm across and you recorded almost 17mm which means your tubes give you 1:0.75 magnification which is great! it is more than life size.

maybe I should get one and try on the 100mm macro. not sure how dim the view finder will be if the tubes are used on an ƒ/2.8 lens.

    tcy,
I shot the flowers this morning at the Zoo.
If you get the set of 3 tubes than you got more options to play around.
The AF hunts a lot, I used manual.

    Choy,
I tried it on the 100mm macro, view finder is not dim. Magnification is much better than 1:1 at it's closest.
And thanks for the calculation, 1:0.75 wow!
Just shot the ruler with 100mm macro with extension tube.
Almost 11mm fill the whole screen so that gives us 1:0.48 magnification.

    tcy,
actually AF is the least of your worries. When I started I also rely
on AF, but after trying out manual, I find it gives me better control.
After a while I am so used to it I don't use AF for macro anymore.
Tell you what, why don't you borrow my tubes and give it a try,
than decide if you want to buy it.
Macro lens is still the best, but I am open to options especially
if it can save me some $$. Of course there is a trade-off between the
2 options, $$ vs ease of use.
