Just came back from Sam Yick at Parkway. At the big display planted tank, I noticed there are at least 3 types of mosses..

Looking from outside the shop, the left most moss is java (I think) but what is the center one (the light green, Christman moss look-alike with fur-rish texture). I think the one on the right is Christmas moss.

The same light green moss also covers the branch of the drift-wood in the tank..

Can anyone shed some light on the name of the light-green moss?

    Thanks.

    mini moss = taiwan moss
taiwan moss NOT = xmas moss

I think those selling at Petmart currently ($5 per packet) are taiwan moss, although Petmart say it is xmas moss.

Anyone bought the same moss from Petmart? Any comments?

I just bought some from petmart, but its soaking in a small tank right now.

I've heard that petmart's are emersed, in anycase, they are so chock ful of crap. (wood shavings, paper etc) that I wonder where they get their stock..

This moss issue is really a pain in the butt.. there are just so many version of understanding of what moss is the same and which is not..

I have Taiwan Moss. At least that's the name given by Chan when I got it from NA. My Taiwan is growing very very well and so I do know exactly how they should look like.

The 'fur' looking light-green moss I saw at Sam-Yick is definitely definitely not Taiwan moss that I have got in my tank. It looks very much like the Christmas moss on the right of it except the color and the texture is very very different.

So what on earth is that light-green moss?

Perhaps we should have a weekend workshop on that and everyone who attends it will get a certificate made of dried-moss
