I found this in my tank today. I'm quite sure it is not algae. Been keeping this plant for several months & only came across this today. Anyone can share what is happening to the plant?

    Cheers,

Hornwort melts when water condition changes too suddenly.

Same experience here. When I put hornwort in a new tank, it could melt.
You need any Hornwort? I have plenty.

No idea if hornwort is anything like crystalwort, because i have the latter.

I've found that it grows fine in my tanks but as soon as summer arives and my temperature rises above 25'C it begins to disintergrate. MY tank runs at 24'C and i try to maintain this. If your temp is above 25'C for more than a few days, such as if it runs at 26'C standard then you'll find it may disintergrate. Try lowering your temperature to about 24'C.

    Hope that helps.

I don't think temperature is the problem. I have hornwort that thrives in a tank by the window that often hit 32'C in the afternoon.

So why did mine repeatedly die if the temp rose above 26'C for more than 3 days =/

Do you know what i've come to realise, theres alot of inconsistency within the aquatics world. It just doesnt add up sometimes

I'm referring to hornwort. My crystalwort (Riccia Fluitans) also don't do as well in the room-temperature tank here in the tropics. They don't die, but neither do they grow well in temperature above 26'C.

Hornwort is very sensitive to chlorine. It melted on me once after water change though I added anti-chlorine.

Thanks all for sharing your experiences.

In my case, the melting is most likely due to the chlorine. Poured in some leftover water (from a pail) early this week.

Thanks for your offer, Koah Fong. I still have some in my other tank.
    Cheers,

Dont worry ben, if you have some survivors that should be enough to take over the tank in couple of weeks.

I have rid of them in my tank. Too much growth rate at high light level. It is a perfect starter plant though. Any fish breeder might find it a good friend also.
