Hey I've got a problem which I'm not sure you guys have encountered...

I've got about 100 cardinals in my tank, of which maybe 5-6 are making this strange flicking motion... they swim and eat normally, but then they just do this occasional twitch... in addition, one of them is doing it more violently, and it seems to always swim with its head tilted downwards in a 20 degree incline...

I'm planning to increase the salt levels in the tank... but before I do so, do any of you have any guesses as to what it is? and better still, how to treat?

no their colors are all very brilliant... really nice in fact. Aside from the twitching they look normal.... actually I am suspecting a light trichodina infestation... thus the salt bath. But I'm not 100% sure.

you could very well be right
trichodina doesn't actually harm the fish, it just irritates them
i'm not too sure about the treatment, but salt is great for ectoparasites
tell us how it turns out

Well a quick update here. I've done a very low level dosing of salt. About 1 tablespoon/10G. Seems to work. Generally no more twitching fish, and the one that was unbalanced has either died (though to my knowledge none have died), or is better.
