As I understand, most aquatic plants do best at 24-26 degress celcius. Does anyone knows why? Put the origin of the plant aside, why can't it do as well at 28-30 degree celcius? Or should I put the question this way: Why teperature has an effect on aquatic plant (at a range between 24-30 degree celcius)?

tropical waether ambient temperature is usually around 28-30 C, but water temperature (esp running water) tends to be lower, esp since natural bodies of water are fairly large enough such that the higher temps are rarely attained. so plants are probably adapted to grow optimally at 24-26. In a tank, temp easily rises beyond this comfortable range, so fussy plants like moss, aponogetons, hottonia go kaput.

I think concentration of gases are lower in high temperature too. Less O2 and CO2 in 30 degrees than 25 degrees.
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Yep... Ideally I would like my tank at like 26C thats what I think would be most comfortable for both flora and fauna... but like most of you, a chiller is too ex.

Today my tank runs at 28-29 typically, and by taking care of which plants you pick, you can still have a thriving tank.
