could it be decaying roots? from your java fern?
Or a new species of plant that you have cultivated If so i would like to buy some
Hi all,
Please see the attached picture. This "plant" have been growing on this bogwood for quite a while, it is black at the base and white at the tip. It looks like riccia other than the color. I have several pieces of bogwood, but only this piece have this and it is growing at multiple location.
Regards,
Boon Hong

Maybe your 'dead' DW/BW isnt quite as 'dead' as you first thought. Looks like roots, although it could be fine leaves.
You have an albino strand of plant somewhat Its bizarre.

i have the same problem too! growing out of my driftwood. but its growth was greatly stunted when i removed the driftwood during a rescape session and left the driftwood dry for quite some time.

Wah liews, I thought I had seen it all when it came to wierd stuff frowing in one's aquarium, hope sumbudy comes up with an answer. Sure is interesting...
No i get most of my driftwoods from fish haven... if you want to get rid of them can try what i discovered accidentally... just dry it for a few days and scrap the dried roots off... that should do the trick... but honestly i have no idea what on earth that is...
