    Hi everyone

I was thinking of using java moss as foreground plant for one of my tanks. If I were to grow them on those rectangular wire mesh thingy and place them onto the gravel bed, over time as it thickens will it face similar situation like riccia where by the bottom part rots and the top floats up?

Has anyone done this......like to hear from you

i saw a tank in NA utilising moss as a foreground. quite nice cos the moss gets really thick and the shrimp disappear into it. but one thing about java moss is that it gets real messy so it's either u trim it or let it grow like wildfire.
    Fish.. Simply Irresistable

    hi
i use java moss as foreground in my 1ft .
2months only so its not too dense yet.
but instead of tying it to wire mesh then lay it on the foreground (which is what i did) , maybe u can use other plants like tenellus to hold the moss down.
becos if in future u want to plant some plants among the moss , there will be difficulty, unless u can push the plant thru the wire mesh.... er... u know wat i mean ?

    good luck

Oh I forgot to add... I dun think Java moss will be like riccia as in it keeps floating up. Unlike Riccia, Java moss actually clings quite tightly, and it will spread... however similar to riccia, I think periodic pruning is necesarry to keep the bottem layers from rotting away. The other nice part of java moss is that it doesn't require as bright light, or as much CO2... in fact its one tuff plant to kill.

    oh this i have done...
i tied bunches of java moss evenly on rectangular tiles with fishing line...
they can be tied loosely unlike riccia cuz they don't float...
i find from experience that java moss grow nicer in lower temps like 24-25? it forms bushier branches which grow more or less sideways rather than skinny strings that grow upwards...
    yeah i hope this helps...
also the moss that doesn't get enough light turns brown and black...
so i trim pretty often to keep my moss green throughout...[]
