roland, u can ask david.. he has some in his 4ft...
for availability, I sometimes see them at tiong bahru
Read from sources that bleeding heart grows to abt 6-8cm, but in the Gallery it states 4cm. Anyone has experience with this tetra?
Does it schools tightly and best kept around how many in one? 6? Very interested in the red back bleeding heart in the gallery, anyone seen it sale recently other than Gans?

Hi.
I've got 10 Bleeding hearts in my 4ft. Got them from Gans.
Mine are about 3-4cm currently. I've seen quite a big one in one of Gan's outside tanks. Not sure if it's 6cm, but definetly bigger than 4cm.
I've also seen them at C328 and GenX, but I would recommend getting them from Gan's.
Actually got mine in two batches of 5 over two weeks and all were healthy and setttled into the tank quickly.
The do school quite tightly as they tend to be nervous and school when a little spooked....
Oh and they are hearty eaters, er...actually rather greedy!

i believe those in the outside tank at Gan is the flameback bleeding heart tetra, much nicer than the normal ones
Hi Simon,
Do you know which type Gan's are selling? I don't even know which type I have. The Gan bloke did say that I can expect them to get more red as they get older.
I've seen pictures of male bleeding hearts that have a very nice hooked dorsal fin, but mine don't seem to be even close to hooking, unless I've got all females []

there are 2 species, one is the normal bleeding heart which is common in lfs and the other is the flameback, the latter has a deep red colouration on the back/spine... but they are rare and often caught from the wild
I believe once the fish gets acustomed to yr tank or when the condition and diet is right, u should get to see the full glory of the fish
hi roland
they do get pretty big.....i out of 20 of them i got some are at already at the 2.5in mark and i am crossing my finger that they dont get any bigger...as what simon has mentioned the flame backs are the nicer ones....
ooooh one more thing if you have slower feeding fish in your tank...dont keep more than 5 to 6 of them.....your other fish will not stand a chance to feed at all

The title below my name does not make me a guru...listen at your own risk!...
i see... mine are mostly cardinals, rummy noses, emperors and some pencilfishes. Maybe i will get 6 of them. So i guess the flameback will get larger than the normal one huh?

Hi David,
2.5in is pretty big, I thinking maybe my tank's too small for 6 of these + other fish []
Do your males have the hooked dorsal fins? I suppose they get greedier as they get older/bigger? Do you feed them any live or frozen food? I've only ever given mine flakes and freeze dried stuff...
