    Hi

How big is your puffer fish. If I am not wrong, puffer fish do feed on small fish. You may try to give it some different type of food.

    Cheers

They are known for not feeding on the dry pellets. I feed mine with snails from my other tanks and also brine shrimps. I understand they feed on frozen blood worms too.

Hmm.. never successful with dried pellet food before also back then when I had 2... Gave it frozen bloodworms & if there are snails in the tank, it should be rather happy feasting...

However, mine previously tried to 'bite' at my other fishes (goldfishes) tails & fins. May be unfriendly towards your shrimps too (if you have any in your tank...) Do take note bro... Cheers!!

I think its a baby size.. about 2 cm in length.

    Thanks for all your posts..!
I think I did a mistake by bring him in
I do have two shrimp also in the tank.
So far both are safe.. I see them hide in between the leaf of plants..

So far i see the puffer just swim curiously investigating every object....
its fun to watch though !

    One question..
If I introduce snail into the tank for puffer to feed on, then won't it cause a snail outbreak?

    Ya looks exactly the same...
so still is this dangerous inclusion in my planted tank
the fishes that i have are
    2 - Platty
    2 - Cardinals
    4 -Zebra
    3 - Barb
    1 - Corydoras
    2 - Otto
    1 - Yamato shrimp

    Guys,

    Thanks for all your suggestions,
just another question.. by putting blood worms does it pollute the water?
    How do you handle that

    Thanks

Not a chance! My newly planted tank was full of snails (& eggs) & it only took 2 days for this cute creature to get rid of them.

It will be much more fun to watch them snacking on the snails.
    Cheers,

Snacking on snails fun to watch... but mine snack on shrimps

I find dwarf puffer hard to keep. Mine keeps dying after few weeks. Figure8 puffer is my favourite...

I take it you meant frozen bloodworm. Any uneaten food may cause pollution, more so if you overfeed. How many dwarf puffers are there in the setup?

One cube (Hikari frozen bloodworm) is too much for a day's feeding. To give you an idea, I feed about half cube (or less) to my group of 5, once a day. The rest are fed to other fishes. I defrost them in a small bowl first before feeding them.

    Thanks Quixotic for your views...
I have only one puffer in my tank.
Since last week I think it has never taken any feed.
Most of the time i see him just searching under the plants..(may be searching for snails..)
I feel pity for him to have brought him into my tank unnecessarily !

I have two shrimps in my tank .. but I have not seen him getting interest in them yet...

The shrimps are probably too quick for the puffer, but even so, I can assure you that it will not stop trying to sneak a bite.

It isn't good to let it starve. Once it gets sunken stomach, there are chances it may not survive long term.

    Therefore, either:
    1. buy some frozen bloodworm, but it seems like feeding may be a problem as it is the only fish

    2. buy some snails, but may be too costly in the long term

    3. start a thread in Marketplace to ask for snails (for free or small token), as they are pest to others and can't wait be rid of

    4. sell or give away the puffer to someone who can take care of it

    Thanks for your valuable points...
I will try and move it to another smaller hamster tank get some blood worm to feed it.
if still cannot manage then I think I will post it in Marketplace.

You can try hatching brine shrimps to feed. Convenient and economical.

Fyi, you can buy feeder snails for your puffer. I have been buying them to feed my puffer.
