have u been doing water changes?
are u pumping in co2?
is the tank exposed to sunlight?
do u use base fert?
is your tank fully(densely) planted?
There has been some brown algae growing on the front glass of my tank. Anyone can help??
My tank : 4 x 2 x 2 ft
Temperature: 27C
Lighting: 8hrs
Filter: Atman 3337
UV light
I have not been adding liquid fertilizer and on lighting only for 8 hrs but no improvement at all.
Thanks!

William

High fish load or feeding too much could be your problem...the solution now is to do more water changes to reduce the possibility of high PO4 or NO3 or add more plants to soak up excess nutrients in the water column..or last..dose more K to boost plant growth so as to increase uptake of nutrients.[]
Plant Physiology by Taiz and Zeiger
1) Doing water change every week (30%)
2) Tank not expose to sunlight
3) I am using base fert
4) My tank is fully planted
5) I have about 50 cadinal and 4 tetra in it and of course unknown no. of yamatoes.....lost count already + a few otto
6) Injecting CO2 at 2bps
Thanks!

William,
Do you have the kits to measure NO3, PO4, pH and KH?
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.

hmmmz did your base fert leak into your water column when u pulled out a plant?----------------

what lighting are u using?
like what tubes?
Questions:
What base fert did you use?
How thick is your clean gravel placed above the base fert?
What liquid fert you use and how much & frequency you dose?
How much light you use?
UV light will not kill brown algae but can help to suppress them. If I am not wrong, your 3337 is the equivalent of a 2228 in flow rate (about 1050 l/hr). If you connect the UV light to this filter output, slow down the filter's flow rate (less about 20%), the UV will work better. Your UV light should be at least 11 watts for your tank size to work effectively.
I used to have the same problem before. I turned off my Co2 completely and it worked. You could try to regulate your Co2 more carefully.
Your tank is quite new?
Usually brown algae appear in new tanks. They are diatoms and feed on silicates. They usually appear near the substate.
Otos and golden/lemon algae eaters do a good job cleaning it up. They should go away as you tank mature. IMO, no need to be too worried about your tank parameters.

When I pull out some plant, some base fert did leak into the water. I am connecting my uv to the inlet of my filter. Tank setup about 3 months ago........

Better to connect to the outlet of the filter. You want clean filtered water to flow thru the UV unit, not the unfiltered water.
UV filter is not very effective against non-water borne algae.

Hi William,
I usually try and time my re-planting with water changes. Especially if I'm planning to uproot plants and some base fert is gonna leak out.
Do planting , then change some water straight after....

Why everyone get so cheam nowadays?
Get some Ottos. They will clean them up overnight...
