    Hi All,

I've bought a low tech 9"x6"7" nano tank with 9W light, hang-on filter and soil. And is looking for very tiny and colourful fishes to fit such environment. Could anyone suggest suitable type and quantity?

Galaxy? Boraras brigittae? And some sakura shrimps?

Hi Tony, think I've the exact set-up as you also...

I'm housing 8 Neon Tetras inside currently with 1 Ramshorn Snail & some common (don't know from where) snail which had multiplied without my permission...

One thing you may need to note (sorry if you are already an expert in this hobby, just to share my painful experience...) is not to house too many fauna in it as it may lead to excessive bioload like mine previously... Below are my stocklist initially (at the advise of LFS owner that sure can one...):

    20 Neon Tetras
    10 Cherry Shrimps
    2 Otos
    1 Common Snail
    Java moss
    Nana

Had an ammonia spike due to excessive bioload, all cherries died , left with 8 survival Neon & snails - shifted my 2 otos to another tank...

Remember, any change in water parameter will be far more drastic in such nano tank as compared to bigger ones... Learnt a very heartpain lesson from this...

those pics are females boraras B. noticable by their orangey/pink flank and transparent fins. The males have redder flanks, with red fins outline in black.

yeah but even my female brigittae isn't that transparent. This is more like the color when you just bought the fish

ya, the pale pale pink type of color. Only my two males became very red, but the solo female maintains its sickly pale color. However, looking forward to introducing more females to the tank with my upgrade as the alpha male spends a large amount of time chasing the other male, i need to balance them out.

I find them good indicators for water quality as well.

    Hi bettlejuice,

Thanks for sharing with me your experience. I'm new to this hobby.

Would 12 galaxy or boraras be too much for such a small tank?

    Torque6 and Shadow,

The link with the blood red boraras sure is a beau! Any idea where I can get those very red boraras? Also, what kind of dry food to feed these little ones?

try biotope, its the fair right tank infront of the entrance. I only have 3 of them, so i feed them hikari micro wafer pellets. I break each pellet with a tweezer in 3 portions and feed accordingly.

Thanks Torque6, I'll be passing by C328 next week to try my luck, even posted a WTB in the market place too

If still not found, will go biotope, as that place is a little inconvenient for me.

    Cheers!

c328 has them, sorry i didnt at first ask which was a more convenient LFS for you. Just ask the Mrs Toh, you want the 80cents red mosquito fish and she will point you to the small tanks with nails on the right of the cash counter. Do note however, the fishes has been there for quite some time and are quite unhealthy, i have lost about 2 of them within the first week upon introducing them to my tank.

    Hi Torque6,

    Wow! You are very resourceful

Thanks for the alert. And the last question is how many would be a good quantity to fit inside my mini tank? 8?

I have 3 of them in my 10L tank now. I had 4 previously but it looks alittle overcrowded.

Thanks Torque6, I'll keep it to 3 as well. I've already place a java moss carpet and elodea as background for the tank, now waiting for the final touch (the fauna)

Remember to get 1 male and 2 female, if not the alpha male will spend its days chasing the lesser males.

    Hi lowell,

The clown killi looks very rare, must be fetching a high price? Available in LFS?
