    Err... freshwater, yes?

Anyway, Spiff, more details please. What substrate is she using? Any rocks, drift wood, plants, etc? Adding anything to the water? CO2? What is she using in her filter? What pH values is she getting?
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

hi spiff......just to add on, it may be good to check her tap water KH level which I believe can be pretty low. My tap water KH is at 2 and if voided or very low dissolved CO2, the PH is at 7...but once I inject CO2 without adjusting the KH up, the PH goes all the way down to about 5.5.

Incidentally is your cousin injecting CO2 into the tank or is there any peat moss thingy in the filter? Usually these are the two main substance that can drop your PH that fast and that is provided if the KH level is below 3
