New budget dSLR from Canon. Good news for those who are going to upgrade from P&S.
It will be cheaper than entry dSLR 450D with most functions in tact. The rate Canon is going...

This is canon answer to the D60, wondering how they want to position their price to compete with the D60.

I though 400D is about the same price as D60

I guess it will be cheaper than D60. Canon has gone all out to capture the mass market with this unconventional catergory, and consumers will benefit as it will be cheaper now to own a dSLR. I hope likewise for lens, they will create more cheap lens like the 55-200mm. Perhaps a better macro than 50mm/1.8II...but sub S$500

but the 50/1.8II is not a macro

since the D60 is selling at about $960 we can hope it will be less than $900.
which would be a treat for newbies.

interesting to see Canon launching a more budget DSLR since they already launch a new 450D.

This is good news, soon DSLR prices will become nearer and nearer to prosumer camera prices and hopefully we get more people converted to DSLR soon.

Good move, as not many people can afford the high end stuff.

Err.... I have nothing that is currently in production. All obsolete stuff.

Seriously, was thinking of a simple camera to pass to my dad since I 'took' his Canon AE-1 about 28 years ago. If it's not too expensive, it would be too much of a problem if he bangs around a bit with it.

Haha, time to repay your dad! If not for his AE-1 28 years ago, you would not be a great photographer today.

Actually, I still have the AE-1. Perhaps I should give that one back to him instead. Then I won't have to teach him photoshop and all the digital stuff. Hmmm....

LOL! How true. My dad doesn't even know how to turn on a computer or answer a handphone.
