I noticed two of my male bettas have bulging tummy. I don't know whether it is due to overfeeding or something else. At the moment they look normal and swimming happily.
I'm worried about dropsy, do you guys think its the initial symptom?
Water change twice a week, using aged water plus dry ketapang leaves. Feeding is six times per week. Food is frozen mosquito larvae.

Nope, so far, the scales have not raised like pine cone. But I don't want that to happen, by then it will be too late. Any effective medication and how long is the treatment going to be?

Are you sure no other symptoms? If no, you could try an internal bacteria med which may or may not help. You're right on one thing, take action now... by the time it pops out like pine cone usually no hope liao.

Try switching to frozen daphnia. There's a laxative effect from them because of the high fibre content and you can monitor if your bettas have problems.

One other question, what kind of bettas are they? Halfmoons, superdeltas, veiltails or plakats?

    Stop!

Bettas are quite greedy. They eat quite a lot. My betta has bulging tummy too. I cut down the feeding and the tummy was gone.

If your betta is still eating when you feed, your betta may be fine afterall. You only need to worry if your betta is not eating.

Try reducing the amt you feed and see if the bulge go away.

My bettas had the same problem. Now I only feed 3 small granules every other day. Loss heaps of weight but still happy to see me!
