Where did you get the name Physastra sumatrana from? I manage to find some references to the snail, but I can't find any pictures at all.

This looks to me like one of the Physa or Physella species.

I got the name from a friend who used to work with wildlife.

Hi, it does looks like a 'Pond Snail' if I'm not mistaken... Normally can be found hitchiking a ride from the aquatic plants that we buy at LFSs... I have a few of this in one of my tanks also... Found the 'spots' pattern on the shell very nice initially until it bred like hell in my tank...

    Hope it helps...

Thanks for highlighting that it is a pond snail. Anyone knows of its scientific name?

It has been around for a few months already and it is still the only one in the tank. Will it spawn on its own?

    = pond snails.

However, pond snails are just general names applicable to similar looking snails found commonly in ponds, which may span several genera. Having no visual cue of Physastra sumatrana, I guess it is also possible that it could be this species, aside from snails from the Physa or Physella genera.
