Revamped my 2.5ft tank after I couldn't get rid of the BBA on the Hair Grass and tank was suffering from nutrient deficiency. Here are some pics to share.

    At its prime

    Immediately after revamp
(removed all Star Grass, replaced Hair Grass with APP. Added Lotus)

    Recently

    Is this Ludwigia arcuata?

Eusteralis stellata, grew better after solving the Ca deficiency problem.

My Lobelia cardinalis tends to get algae, whats the reddish plant on the right?

Any plants I can use to cover the background? My Vallisneria has been not growing tall lately.
    Comments welcome!

Hi juggler..nice tank...are you still using Dr Mallick's micros and K supplement only? Oh..plants with curling leaves are suffering from what deficiency? Ca or Mg? Doesn't our tap water contain those?

Is there a possibility that the dosing of K2SO4 can cause nutrient deficiency as uptake of nutrients will be at a higher rate?

Can't wait till your APP covers the foreground. That will certainly be nice. Never had much success with L. Cardinalis and yours are nice. No one adopting that Oriental plantlet yet?

Allen: So right. I wish to cover up the eqpt as well. See if the Vals will grow taller now that the pH is higher because of the coral chips. Otherwise I need to find other plants to replace.

Peter: Yes. Dr M's micros (5 drops daily) and K2SO4 (20ppm weekly) basically. On rare occasions, I dose a bit of Mg. Even more rare occasion, PO4 as well if it becomes too low and NO3 is high. I also stuck some Jobe/Horti sticks for the bigger plants like E.oriental.

Cyberjoe: My pH recently registered 7.4 because of some coral chips I put in the filter. Normally is about 7. I am monitoring to see if any side effects. But I think no worries because my 4ft tank last time has pH of 7.6.

Geoffrey: APP is spreading but a bit slowly leh. They seem to grow very closely to the substrate -- because of high lighting? Yep. E.oriental plantlets still available if anyone's interested.

I know still got lots of improvements that can be done. Hope the plants grow well this time.

    Juggler,

did u do any terracing for that tank? cos i can't really tell. I really love the overlapping effect of the tall plants in the left hand corner of the first pic.

Can share how u do it?

    KF,

btw, I noticed that in your latest pics, your discus are showing more stress bars... so mebbe you might wanna make sure they de-stress before your next rescaping of the tank.

Irn-Bru: Yep. I call it "interim upgrading". All occupants need not move out.

szesteve: No terracing. I noticed the Star Grass tend to mushroom upwards but the bottom becoming bare. So I planted Blyxa along its base.

Allen: I think the discus are hungry. Waiting for me to finishing taking the pics!

Toshi: Thanks for the plant ID. Do you also know the name of the reddish plant in the last pic? It grows very much slower than the Ludwigia brevipes.

just rescaped my office tank yesterday, water is super cloudy... luckily my corys, SAEs, Otos and cherries are surviving... was wondering how delicate fishes like discus will be affected by such rescapings...

what's that small green plant with round leaves in the last picture? what's their max height? around 5cm i suppose? got extras??

Joe: The plant is Lobelia cardinalis. You should check out Erik's site for more info. http://www.e-aquaria.com/des_lobelia.html. Very slow growing. Already given out the last trimmings to colleagues, so not much to spare currently.

I think discus are not all that delicate. They seem more prone to suffer from internal bacteria in planted tank [in my case] rather than cloudy water.

    KF,

notice that you suddenly have a red lotus in the Dec foto... was it grown from scratch or replanted from another tank?

my understanding and experience is that the leaves of Nymphea lotus will rot if replanted/relocated... is this true?

Hmmm... I've replanted/relocated Nymphea plantlets and adult plants many times. Never had the leaves rotting off.

sLapshock: I have 144W in there. More parameters at my tank pages.

c.y. : I feed the discus TetraBits. Sometimes Bloodworms. Nitrates can sky-rocket if feed too much BW.

Joe: I planted the lotus after getting from Teo farm. The old leaves don't seem to grow since I planted. But new leaves came out bigger and nicer. It is there in the Nov photo but looking very tired.
