Can anyone recommend a lawn plant that is clown loach proof? The bugger is pulling out all my hairgrass, but I need him to keep the tank snail free.

No can do. I have tried now for three years to have a "lawn" in my 3 footer with 4 clown loach. My big 2 dig up my HG and my small baby 2 eat all new leaves. The only thing you can do is remove them and have them in another tank, or have HG in another tank. I have tried and tried but to no avail. They just dig to god-damn-much. Unfortunately.

Its just one of those things that doesnt mix, and if it does very very rarely. If you come across a solution - do tell haha I'd love to have the two in one tank. Loach with a lawn. **sigh**

After leaving this thread i went straight to this one. It's certainly an alternative to try if you can get hold of it i guess.

Clown loach will be quite unsuitable for a hairgrass lawn, or even any other decent lawn. I certainly also don't recommend keeping a lone clown loach in a tank. They aren't solitary creatures and will be much happier in a bigger group.

I'd suggest getting a dwarf puffer to control the snail population instead

Certainly dont keep loach on there own. Groups of 4 probably minimal. I had 2 on their own, and i thought they were quirky then. I added 2 more on someones recomendation and boyo! The little guys became soooooo much more animated. And snails were obliterated.

Dwarf puffers are also very good, plus they don't eat your lawn! Only downside to them is they tend to nip other fish's fins, even the tiniest puffers get a little nippy from time to time.

    Good luck with this mate.
