    just wondering if 4 36W PL light with reflectors is sufficient for this setup?
    i saw some were using 6 36w PL light over at "my Tanks" section. possible to plant high light plant with this setup?

    i think by judging 3 watt / gallon isn't very accurate, hope you guys can help me to decide with your experience

    thx

    I'm using 4x36watts for a tank for the same size and frankly, if u want to go for high light plants.. u have to add another pair, though I agree with the inaccurate measure of the 3watts per gal rule.. it all laid down to the choice of plants.. I even manage to grow glosso with jus 4x36watts

    The guide calls for 2~3w per gallon.

    4X36W watt would mean 2.25W per gallon and 6X36W would mean 3.36W per gallon. Normally, the 4X36W would fare ok depending on the plants you have. If you have chosen any of the configuration, you would then have to somehow balance on fert, plants and co2 so that the plants may grow nicely while avoiding algae bloom. It is still possible to have a successful tank even with lower lighting but IMO, it would be slightly more difficult.

    Note: Low light doesn't mean less algae.
    Cheers!!

    Used to have only 4x36w PL lights for my 4x2x2 ft tank. All plants still growing well. I think a tank size of 4x1.5x1.5 ft should do fine with 4x36w lighting.

    How u place the light plays a part too. The 36W PL seems short, will 4 be able to cover the 4ft evenly?

    roland, thats why u have to plan your scaping well and make sure high light plants are under the PL light tube, problems with PL is the coverage.. one way to outcome this, is to arrange the light tube overlapping each other, say u got 4x36.. a better coverage will be
    Code:
    ========= ==========
       =========== ==========

    rather than

    ========= ==========
    ========= ==========

    "===========" = light tube
