maybe because plant grow better in cold water thus out compete the algae.

I still got BBA in cold tanks.and green spot algae, and hair algae. hehehhee
Cheers, Christophe
They may not like it but it doesnt mean there wont be algae in the tank

I am growing hairgrass and cryptocoryn in a non-co2 tank. Have 2 fan to keep the water cool. I have since off the 2 fan. Will observe to see if turning off the fan, thus higher temperature, will induce any algae growth. Give me some time to observe.
probably wont, I have also low tech tank, 1ft, without fan temp hovering 27-29 degree C and no algae. Inside the tank: spiky moss and narow leaft java fern, sakura shrimp and boraras brigittae.
I have noticed a correlation between temperature and growth of BBA. My 4 foot tank had a problem with it, I was then using a China brand pump which heated up the water significantly, to 30+ celsius. Since this year, I changed the pump to a more efficient one (the previous one broke) the temperature has dropped to 28 celsius and the BBA was wiped out within a month.
interesting finding, is it possible because warmer water have less CO2?
Not sure about aquarium, but i've seen news & documentries showing that due to global warming, some coral reefs have seen an increase algae grown when the water temperature rises. And some lakes, algae grown increases during summer time. So i believe there could be some links in temperature & algae grwoth, eventhough i still get algaes in my chilled tank .
Probably most of you are right.
Just found this:- A study by University of Wisconsin on the effect of temperature of blue green algae (Cyanobacteria) in Lake Mendota concluded that the optimum temperature of 20C to 30C would support photosynthesis of BGA and it flourished! At lower temperature between 0 - 20 C. there was little or no sign of BGA.
An extract of the study can be found in the journal of Applied and Environmental Mircobiology, Vol.36 No 4

but usually we don't fo that low right
Well my chilled tank of 24-25degrees still got algae.
dont think any one will chilled below 20degrees.

Actually i didn't mind the BBA in that tank, they look interesting, after they died, my tank stank abit.
