I got these two nymphea lotus's from teo's. but today I noticed that there was a bad smell (hydrogen sulphide coming from the roots.

one of them with the large bulb was so rotted away that I broke it and kept the upper 10%. there were a few roots sprouted, are these things dead or what? or do I just not know how to plant them? when I got them the bulb was like "smelly" already.

i got mine from teo too
the moment i reached home i took an old toothbrush and scrubbed off as much of the bulb as i could

never plant in the whole bulb
the things tend to rot on you
if you like, you can CUT the parts off except for the main core of the bulb
if that's untouched, the lotus should grow back

another thing you can do is to expose the tip of the bulb slightly
    seems to help
