    i'm playing with this idea:

once my hospital tank is freed up, i'd like to get a bag of feeder platies and quarantine them with Melafix. then i'll choose a couple for my other tanks to clear surface scum (sp?) and then give the rest away.

question: my hospital tank is being filtered with an eden 304 attached to a rainbar (for aeration). IF the platies start giving birth, will the fries be big enough not to go into this filter?

    thanks!

Yes, the fries will be small enough to get sucked in, if they don't get eaten first. They are really small. You need to make sure your tank is DENSELY planted to ensure some survive.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    thanks, vincent.

guess it'll either be 'get a surface skimmer' or 'breeding net' then. []

not a breeder net coryfav, the babies will be released by the mom within the net itself which means they'll be eaten anyway. get those floating ones with a V-type partition midway down the container. those offer better protection as the mom will release the fry and they'll slide down the v-slopes to protection. or u could get those with a grid cos the breeder nets are actually just like traps.

You can use small plastic wastepaper baskets... can put a few pairs or trios or the pregnant females inside, and moreover the fries can grow up with their parents...

Platies seldom cannibalised their youngs unless they are very hungry or cramped/small tank.
