There's some collection of bubbles forming on the surface of the water in my tank. What is wrong? Done many 50% water change yet still the same...

Most probably due to the protein build-up on the water surface. Just use a skimmer to remove the surface layer (film of oil and debris).... That should help clear it up.

i don't have a skimmer (yet), so what i do is to scoop as much of those stuff from the surface, whenever i do water-changes.

FLORENCE, capital of the region of Tuscany, has a population of around half a million inhabitants, spreads on the banks of the Arno, between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian seas, almost in the middle of the Italian peninsula. It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science.

If yours is a new tank like mine , that fret not. it will clear up on its own. I was very worried about it too but one day , it all dissapeared! woohoo!

Actually I did have a skimmer inside that tank, but still got bubbles. Dont know if it's related but it happens only after i moved the rainbar (canister filter) from below the water level to above the water level.

What causes excessive protein buildup in the water?

if your rainbar is above the water level, you'll get surface agitation. this should break the protein film.

if you suspect protein film, try to reduce feeding. this should help to reduce protein build up.

Just checking... do you have fishes like gouramis or bettas in the tank? These fishes sometimes build bubble nests.

surface agitation + protein film gives bubbles
think of soap solution when you agitate the water

Unless your plecos got identity crisis...[]

Well... just checking the possibilities ... the bubbles are probably due to the reasons the other guys have brought out.

yeah i got the bubbling thing happening too. once my water level drops below my rainbar i get the bubbling problem. and there's this protein film building up. apart from platies, what other fish actually "eats" this protein film? anyone have any ideas?

I just realise that my surface skimmer was not working because it was placed next to the airstone, hence "blowing" the surface dirt away instead of skimminh it. Removed the airstone and the skimmer did do the work of "sucking" in the bubbles...
