    Bros,

I have some questions that need some advise.

I have tried to DIY a CO2 Bottle using yeast and sugar.

    My steps :

    1) I pour sugar into the big pepsi bottle (around 5cm) and water (Half bottle)
    2) I shake the bottle and make sure the sugar dissolve in the water.
    3) Pour yeast(dun know how much) and shake vigorously so that everything is well mix.
    4) Attached bottle to hose connected to the diffuser.
    5) snore.................

I woke up at 1am and got a shocked!!!

My tank is bloody cloudy and i realised that the foam pass thru my pipe and into the tank.

I saw some diagrams in the net that they have another empty bottle to prevent the foam flow to the tank. But i have also saw some diagrams that dun need the extra bottle.

    Below are my questions :

    1) How much sugar, waterr and yeast is needed? Can give me some indications so that i can just follow?
    2) Are my steps wrong?
    3) Do i need to mix them throughly?
    4) Do i really need a separate bottle for the foam?
    5) I bought a diffuser today and is the same as one of the bro tat i saw at his house where inside is spiral. How do i achieve the effect that you can see the water or air in segment form running thru the spiral? The reason why i ask becos basically i do not see this effect and just air coming out from the stone.
    6) Must i pour water into the diffuser first?
    7) Which diffuser gives good asthetic and at the same time is good in diffusing?
Why some diffuser cost $100 over and i bought it from 328 only $11.
    9) Can mine does the work?

    Thanks

During my DIY CO2 days, I used the setup at http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/co2-faiz.html

    As to your questions:

    1) How much sugar, waterr and yeast is needed? Can give me some indications so that i can just follow?
2L bottle. 2 cups (about delifrance cup size) sugar. 1/4 tsp yeast (normal "Bake King" brand will do).

    2) Are my steps wrong?
    3) Do i need to mix them throughly?
I mixed the sugar well with tap water in a pot and then pour into the 2L bottle to about 3/4 full. Then put in the 1/4 tsp yeast. No need to shake from this point. Let the brew ferment slowly.

    4) Do i really need a separate bottle for the foam?
Good to have to absorb some "stuff" that may cause cotton-like growth at the output end in the tank. Also prevent your brew from flowing into the tank like what happened.

    5) I bought a diffuser today and is the same as one of the bro tat i saw at his house where inside is spiral. 9) Can mine does the work?
DIY CO2 won't work with a diffuser. Not enough pressure.

i think having another bottle of the same size will be overkill and will probably make the system less pressurised / require more co2 to be produced so that its pressurised enough....

having something like a bubble counter should suffice..

Make sure your hose in the bottle is not in the mixture. It should be near the top of the bottle.

Right. For my case, I DIY using a 500ml bottle. After using it for quite some time, the water in it smells strongly of alcohol. So I guess it had dissolved something from the brew, which otherwise would have gone into the tank.
