Basically, the sharpness on the 2nd photo looks oversharpened
Hi,
Happen to see this very friendly bird that allows me to get within working distance of my 180mm + 2x TC. So I gave it a try. I posted the first image and Richard said it wasn't sharp so I apply some more USM which results in the second image. Is it too sharp? How?
Any birder sifus want to help comment? Here's the shoot condition.
Aperture priority, F 8.0, 1/125, ISO 400, EC -2.7, FEC 0, handheld so I had to lower the EC to get a decent shutter speed and use the flash to cover.

Agree that 2nd one oversharpened. The flash is too strong also..got the very flashy look. You can see silver eye effect due to flash. Can clone it out and reduce contrast abit i think. But nice attempt on the bird portrait!
Ok, point noted. How about this? I clone out the reflection, reduce the contrast and sharpening. I also reduce the perch's brightness a bit. Is it better?

There just isn't enough detail on the subject, just go out and reshoot
Yeah, detail loss due to heavy cropping. What to do? Don't have long lens.
- Luenny
Looks pixelated and oversharpened. Cropped too much?
ck
Yeah, more than 50% was cropped away. That's the nearest I dare to go without the birdie flying away.

I have not shot a bird locally yet, this bird is so cute! Look at the feet, so small comparing to the size of the body.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers!

Yeah, it just happen to be where I am. Guess what, there was a blue king fisher near by too but it flew away as soon as I took out the camera from my bag.
- Luenny
Kingfisher, i couldn't even go 50m near them. They always spot me first!
Cheers!

I suppose this is where camo paint, leopard crawl and camo gears come in handy?
ck
Hmm, not with my gears, they're way too short for birding. Maybe can consider the 300mm like quix suggested
Cheers!

If you guys keen, I can help organize a bird shooting session. But for some good target practice, why not try the bird park 1st? This month i think there are some discounts for entrance. hehe
I do not have a long lens to begin with.
Cheers!
Benetay
I can let you guys try some of the lens if we do go out shooting. 400mm, 300mm, 600mm. If you like then can go buy later..hehehe

Don't poison us quix. Anyway, I'm safe because I'm nikon user. Hahaha!!
The kingfisher lets me go near because my car was park there. As soon as I walk out from the car to get the camera he started flying.
