do you mean remove once and for all?
green spot algae will always be there, it's just how much or little.

There will always be some algae in almost all planted tanks.... don't expect to be able to eliminate all.... a weekly scrub of the front glass with a hard sponge/phone card/credit card should do. If you find that the algae growth is surpassing this cleaning regime, then it's probably due to an excess of fertilisers (from any liquid fert you add, waste from too many fish/shrimp), which exceed the requirements of your plants. Try cutting down on any fert you add in, reduce fish feeding, do more regular water changes, maybe increase the CO2 rate a little. Or add in some fast growing or floating plants to help mop up the excess nutrients.

alternatively to get rid of the algae you can try rearing some fish that are algae eaters such as pleco or feifeng.

I read the Barley straw extract with interest...how would it alter the water chem? would more sensitive species be adversely affected? I've a UV after my filter - would that change the chemical properties of the extract too? cooked barley extract [] ?
