hi guys , its the third week of my tank cycle and was thinking of adding fishes next week. first of i already added some animals into my tank heres the details

    tank sizes
    -------------------------------------------------------
    tank : 60 X 30 X 45 cm
    light: 72 W PL
    CO2 : denerele DIY co2

    tank mates :
    -------------------------------------------------------
    1. abt 30 shrimps - 25 malayan and 5 tiger

    2. 2 oto

    3. 4 SAE (OMG i didn't know they can grow so huge)

yup thats for now but next week i was thinking of adding these fellows

    1. abt 10 - 12 neon tetra (heard cardinal very sensitive so get neon better)

    2.6 cherry barbs

i will be buying them slowly , introducing the neon tetra first than the barbs 1 week later . will i overcrowd the tank with the barbs ?

[:0] How do you put in 2.6 barbs?

Anyway, your tank bioload sounds ok. My tank (just a few cms smaller in height) has 20 cardinals, 10 rummy noses, 6 bumble bee gobies, 22 cherry shrimps, 5 tiger shrimps, 5 bumble bee shrimps, 2 otos, 2 SAEs.

All living happily and healtily with weekly water changes. I'm using tank CO2 for 10 hrs a day during lighting periods and my tank is heavily planted.

Frankly, Neon tetras are not as beautiful compared to Cardinals. My Cardinals are quite hardy... get yours from Gan's! They are very healthy. 0 death when introduced and about 3 months later 100% survived my entire tank rescape (ie: Take the plants and fish out, wash substrate, put new base fert, replant, cycle with 50% old water for 24 hrs, change 20% water, put fish back)

    No. 1 is neon tetra
No. 2 is cherry barb, not 2.6 cherry barbs![]

neon tetras are said to be hardier than cardinals, but most of us (from what i've seen) have our cardinals surviving better than our neon tetras.

lol my bad , should have space it out.

im a newbie in tanks so i thought better get neon as they are nice and want a hardy fish. my co2 can't be turn of , its those like the 18 dollars co2 u can get at NA - JBL flora CO2 bio 100. those plastic bottle kind. fishes won't affect the co2 in any big proportions right ? i was thinking of adding in an air stone every nite b4 i sleep. or should i leave it as the SAE and oto are doing fine but tiger shrimps are dying slowly. <-- maybe should have brought them home straight away instead of go meet frens

Eat, no. Fish eat most things whole, so if it does not fit in the mouth, it won't get eaten.

    Disturb? Eh... no idea.

Well, have you seen the exhibit at Simei's Pet Safari of the Arowanna?? Those SAE's inside are about the maximum size they can attain. That's about the 14 - 15cm.... And do note that they will dart around looking for food, even stealing food from your tetras and barbs.

Dun worry about the barbs harming the tetras though, I have both together and they co-exists well together... And I do feel that cardinals are more hardier than neons.

One thing to note is that most barb species are fin nippers... They do this as a form of play/competition amongst their own species... However with more docile species like neons, you may find they end up with some fins being nipped.
