After 20 years later, the famous aquarist from Europe, Horst Linke came back to Sarawak again. It's my honour to be his guide to show him some places in my homeland, especially the habitat of licorice gourami (Parosphromenus spp.) and wild fighting fish (Betta spp.). He was here to document & photographing the some species of fish & the habitat for his up coming new book.....

First day, we drove all the way north to Sibu from Kuching of Sarawak & stayed 1 night there. We didn't go fishing that day. Due to the global warming, the weather pattern in Borneo has changed. Now the dry season has MORE RAINFALL than before. Water level of all the rivers are extremely high....looks like bad time for collecting fish. I expected we failed to get the fish he is looking for.....Parosphromenus allani.

BELOW: Batang Rajang (Rajang river) is the longest river in Malaysia.

Horst Linke is back to Sarawak....hooray!

The 2nd day, we left our hotel in the early morning & headed to a blackwater river near Sibu.

BELOW: Water level is very high....so one of our friends, Ngai has to swim to the other side of blackwater river to find Paros. allani.

    Water parameter....

Gotcha!!! Everyone is so excited to take the picture of this little fish only found in central part of Sarawak:

The colour is not showing up when you just caught it....

It is showing some colour in the fish tank :

Due to too much rainfall, low-lying areas are flooded!!! This is the WETTEST dry season!!! Strange weather!

Luckily, we managed to catch some fish near riverbank....then we left & went to explore. Nothing much to explore as water level of all the rivers are too high. At the end, we went shopping in Sibu town.

Damselfly is lying eggs on the half submerged rock:

On the 3rd day, we drove our car back to Kuching. We didn't get anything along the way back. On the 4th day, we headed west to Lundu from Kuching to catch Parosphromenus sp. "Batang Kayan"....an undescribed species of licorice gourami. As expected, the water level was high.....but Ngai managed to catch a few near the riverbank. After that we went to somewhere near Sarawak-Kalimantan border to look for Betta lehi.

The wooden plank left on the trail. The locals said it was left it there by Indonesians who carried it to Sarawak from Kalimantan on foot!!! Someone from Sarawak side will collect those wooden plank later.

Last day, we went to a secret cascade near Serian to collect Betta taeniata.
