since i've started on this hobby a few months back, the tank i've set up all have some base fert of some kind... be it soil based or compost/sand based like sera's floredepot...

just wondering, is it possible to set up a tank with lapis with no base fert? plants will be easy - moderate ones like hairgrass and blyxa only.. will supply nutrients for these rooting plants with root tabs/root monsters/root sticks.

and also, what should i go for? root monsters/root sticks by ocean free or wonder-gro pro root+ tabs?
