Hi guys! I am new to this site and would appreciate your help. I have noticed that my in-laws gourami is building a rather elaborate bubble nest with bits and pieces of plants that he nipped off. Just wondering if any of you guys have come across such a situation? I am pretty sure that all the other three gouramis sharing the same tank are all males so is that a normal behaviour for this particular one to build such a nest? Thanx!

Not too sure about gourami behaviour, but for bettas, the males build nests all the time. When a gravid female swims by and is satisfied with the nest and male, then many frys will be formed....

So, I think your gourami male has established its territority and waiting for a female to come by. No need for it to see a female to build a nest

Ok! Thanx very much; thats what I thought as well. Anyway it is interesting to know(at least for me) that gourami mate exactly the same way as betta; the mate will wrap itself around the female!
