By injecting liquid iron to the plant bed - as can see from the pict, my plant bed fertiliser granules are rather big size so those liquid will be diffused pretty fast which mean back to the iron screw thing - got any those iron capsules or solid ones that only allow slow rate diffusion?

I did saw a guy using iron crystal put into capsule and insert into the gravel, but those iron crystal is not easily found here and is very expensive. What you can do is inject deeper would do the job, plants uptake iron pretty fast i guess.

    Will try that.

BTW when doing a planted tank, isn't it better to have less fish or even no fish at all and with just a few yamatos. They dirty the water fast.

Yes and No, it depends! Those competition tank, they normally keep little fish, most of it is cleaning crew fauna until 1 week before photoshoot, if you have HC then you would introduce Yamatos at later stage, less fish less bioload, normally we would keep those small fish. Less bioload, the water condition would be better for the plant grow.

So before I introduce those moss in, I shouldn't have many fishes like say ,
8 small size cardinals and 12 Yamatos plus some other shrimps (max . I tried last time with many fishes and those mosses really get dirty when doing maintenance.

If is new setup, first 2-3 weeks you shouldnt introduce any fauna, when you introduce moss in, let it settle down 2-3 weeks before introduce Yamato, during 2-3weeks the moss is going through adjusting period so you tends to see some moss turns brown and so, they'll still grow new shoots later on, but if you introduce Yamatos in, they will wipeup the brown one thinking they are death. Small shrimps are ok, i still think letting the moss settle down first before introduce shrimp unless you see hair algae or so then is time to introduce. No SAE if you keep moss.

Stick fertilizer tried before and not really impressed.

I want to have high concentration iron products which I think is the missing link to the redness in those plants.

Tom Barr used iron fillings, you can try that.

    Hi Blue33

You have mentioned Tom Barr many times and I checked up a bit.

Wow! He really knows what's good for him and enjoy!

Frankly speaking, if I got one of this setup, (minus off the artificially made discus) I wouldn't want to step out of my house during all my free time.

Other than iron, strong light is needed.

I am currently using 3 tubes 30watts each which I turn 2 of them on at any one time. (Blue, pink and fluorescent).

Tomorrow going to get another 2 30watts light to give the final push to full blasted REDNESS.

Minus off the fluorescent and get real this time. I previously used that for illumination to my PC when surfing.

Just hope no algae bloom for this one.

    Hi bros,

read this thread with great interests as I had recently bought & planted some stalks of Rotala Sp. Red into my Nano tank (10 litres) to introduce some redness into my tank... After some days, I noticed that the new leaves growing out are green instead of red & I think it's due to lack of Iron in my dosing regime... A few questions below:

    1) Since it's just a Nano GEX tank, what options (additivies) can I get (what brand & roughly how much it'll cost?) to let the plant gain back its redness?
    2) If this tank has shrimps (Cherries, Sakura, Taiwan, CRS) in them, anything I need to take care of or must avoid?
    3) Just using the default GEX PL light, is it enough to drive or maintain the redness of this plant?

Thanks in advance for all replies!!

    Regards.
