Chinese Garden

Hi,
Went to Chinese Garden today to catch some birds. But it was closed for dismantling the lanterns from lantern festival, so walk along the jogging track and chance upon this Black Crowned Night Heron having breakfast.
C&C welcomed.
#1 Canon 20D f8 1/80 400mm ISO400. Big catfish for breakfast.

#2 Canon 20D f8 1/100 400mm ISO400. In it goes. This one not so sharp.

Yeah, very wide. Richard's greedy, shoot everything.

Anyway, nice catch but you might want to get your flash in there next time. A bit hard to see the head inside the shade. By the way, which mode do you shoot in? How come all settings don't change except shutter speed? Did you shoot in AV?

EXIF data says Aperture Priority.
Maybe start with sparrows, mynah and pigeons first?

haha yah lor, shooting people are mostly for company event. Fish, insects and birds are what I like.
Yes shooting at Aperture Priority. I shot with and without flash. Problem is flash makes the eyes funny looking. CS3 skill still no good can't do a good job.
ck, can I clone the eye from another photo to paste on to this?

Clone for what? To remove the red eye? Just select select the eye and apply Hue/saturation.

You've got steel eyes. Just make it black. Anyway, steel eye is still much better than dark subjects. I think the one with the flash is also a bit on the dark side. The subject doesn't show that well. Maybe time for you to get an extender.

tried to correct the eye, but color don't look right.
I think a flash bracket would help, got to spend money again

Flash bracket will help with what?? Steel eye or the fact that your flash cannot reach?? Sorry, I don't think flash bracket will help with either. Better check out the stuff first before buying so you buy what works and not the wrong thing.

Read it from another forum, by placing the flash on the bracket you wouldn't get steel eye. Funny, maybe the angle is a bit off and wouldn't catch the reflection.

Hmmm .... well, I have a cheap bracket with me that you can use if you want but I seriously don't think it'll help much. Oh, you'll need to have a cable when you're using bracket, you have that?

no cable yet, can try ST-E2.
what kind of bracket?

Wow, use ST-E2 just for a flash bracket. That's like adding the weight of another flash so that you can use a bracket.

The ST-E2 is very light, so should be quite alrite.
If not got to buy cable, more $$ needed.
