Hi all,
starting to take an interest in otos.
Can I check with you? Are these two places (Gan's & Teo's) the places to go if I were to look for otos?
By teo's, I would assume it's teo's that sell plants @ LCK? (hehehe ... last time I was there, just notice plants and plants .... and that huge tank you peeps set up. didn't notice any fish tanks or fish for sale?????)
thanks.
cheers,
philtre
Gans sell Otos, Teos does not... teo only does plants... however, teo has some unusual oto in the big tank... actually it looks like a super-duper mini farlowella... then again maybe it is...

^^ maybe that as well?, cos id says = very similar to vitattus... just have to know which is more common/less fragile and that would be it.
Hi Allen.

cheers

oh ... one more thing ...
what would be a good oto to start with? or would all of them be a-ok. I suppose I would be able to find this particular oto @ gans at a reasonable price? (usually @ S$1??)
thanks!

To be honest, I dun really bother to differentiate between my otos... I buy them to eat algae... and not so much to look at... and they all pretty much look the same... with the exception of the zebra oto and the one in teo's tank (which I still think could be a twiggy).
Oto prices range from $1-$1.80 in general... can't remember how much gan sell his...
As for life expectancy, I've found that my oto's either die really quickly, within the first few weeks, or live for a long long long time...

gan=$1
for algae eaters, just go for farlowella sp. lah! twig catfish!
P-L-E-C-O-R-Y=M-A-N-I-A!!! YEAH!
FLORENCE, capital of the region of Tuscany, has a population of around half a million inhabitants, spreads on the banks of the Arno, between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian seas, almost in the middle of the Italian peninsula. It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science.
I have uploaded some pix of the unusual oto in teo's tank

i think it's one of the Hypoptopoma species. should be H. thoracatum. looks pretty much like it. [:]
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
aiyah don't talk about farrows, my farro died a horrible death just a few days ago, my wood making up my terrace dropped and squashed the farro's head and I think he prob gave up trying to escape... permanently... sigh....
Yes the colors and body markings seem like... but what the pic doesn't show is the size... this guy is about the size of an oto...----------------

guys how many oto is enough ? i have only 2 oto and 4 SAE in a heavily planted 2ft tank. thinking of gettting another 6 more oto... or is that too much ? have 25 malayan shrimps and 14 neons inside too
here fishy fish fishy . here shirmpy shirmpy here is my noobie tank(3wk)
chia, I would reduce the numbers of SAE and increase Oto count.. reason to it is Oto is more hardworking and seldom seen eating food u feed yr fishes with, plus unlike SAE, Oto do not grow too large for yr 2ft tank
