so it is you hobbit...
Just had some photos of my aro taken recently. It's recovering from a jump and showing off its best side. Has a few lost scale on the other side and on the back...
Currently about 11". Growth has slowed somewhat because after the jumps, it fasted for a few days.
Here's a picture of its tank.

does it swim around much? seems like it doesn't have much space to turn?

Actually, the width is a little misleading. My aro is not even half the width of the tank. It also likes to swim between the vals
Nice looking tank! What size is it?
Nice aro too
Currently keeping many wild betta species and other anabantoids.
sorry wasnt aware of your jump and pics lighting so similar----------------

Mez,
Thanks. It's a 5' tank. But 6" has been partitioned off as a filter, an internal sump
LSZ,
No problem lah. I know Kenny quite well too. His tank's layout is quite different from mine. And his aro is MUCH bigger than my puny red. Kenny has also joined AQ as his same name, hobbit6003
hey vican
good going on the Aro Tank...nice. I noticed that there is a cover..so errh how did the fish jumped out?...with alot of TLC, you Aro should get up to 2ft+

Hi David,
The hood is where the lights are mounted. So, to prevent the aro from electrocuting itself when it jumps, there is a glass cover that sits across the tank, on the support braces.
However, the glass doesn't reach all the way to the front. There is a gap of 6-8" for feeding and tank maintainance. I cover this gap with light diffusor and weighted down.
When the aro jumped, it hit both the glass and the light diffusor. Probably got the most damage from the light diffusor.
My aro didn't have to jump out of the tank to sustain that kinda damage
It will be much worse if it did jumped out..[]
would it work if you nail in a net that is laced at 2cm?

I don't know if the net is strong enough to keep the aro in if it jumps. My friend's 15" aro jumped and broke the light difusor, but it did prevent the fish from jumping out
