How do you trim this plant?

How do you trim plants like aponogeton ulvaceus?

For me, I just cut them away at the stem as close to the soil as possible. Is that the correct way?

cut away the undesired leaf as close to the seed as possible.

actually, i just get a good grip on the petiole and pull
if the plant is well established the root system will provide enough resistance for the leaf to come out clean
