most stem plants will have this issue. i trim them for cosmetics reasons
hi everyone,
Recently i had add Rotala. However, today i discovered that there is new roots growing but it is not in the soil. it is half way up and the roots are trying to reach the soil. What should i do ? Do a trimming? or leave it as it is.
Attached is a picture of the roots. I had circle the new roots.

Thanks for the information, morgan. Decided to leave them for awhile before deciding what to do. Doing observation on this issue for the time being.
they will just grow like normal roots... at least that is what mine do....
Don't have to worry about it bro bluebk, it's normal (my Rotalas are like this also, even my other plants like Didiplis Diandra & Stargrass too..) Think these roots help to absorb nutrients from the water columns not available in the substrate... Some of these roots may also eventually grow downwards & dip into the substrate over time to let the plant get a firmer grip onto the substrates... (I just leave them alone... cos I'm LAZY!!! )
However, you may trim it off like bro Morgan01 mentioned for cosmetic reasons...

today, i discovered that the rotalas is melting from the end upwards. i suspected that it is the reason why the roots are growing halfway up near the top and grow downwards. Thus, i did a major trimming to all rotalas that have roots growing halfway and replanted them. I am wondering what will be the result of it.
