its either debris stuck to the moss.. or maybe the moss is browning.
Good day,
I bought some moss from someone in an online forum yesterday. Washed the moss and put them back in the tub and placed floating in my tank as the water temp is cooler with chiller. Noticed some red coloured short spiky hair like thing growing on the moss. At first i thought is new leaves of the moss.
Today, i noticed more of these red coloured 'spiky hair' growing.
Is this some kind of algae? Is it harmful to shrimps? Any way to get rid of it or the moss cant be saved?
Sorry for the blur pictures.

umm, dont think its debris as under strong light observation, can see that its entangling with the green moss leaves. It isnt moss browning also as the moss is still green in colour only these red coloured hair like thing.
My apologies as the pic cant show what exactly it is.
i think i have the same problem as you with my fissidens....
it's tiny brown hairs growing out on the leaves..... that won't go away.... my crs and horned nerites don't seem to eat it..... there was another thread posting that malayan shrimps do eat hair algae... however i can't confirm if it's hair algae either....
That is moss browning, dying or death. Sometime the moss remove from rocks or woods, those underneath is either browning or dying due to no lighting reaching it. Just cut away will do.
