yes its certainly a good algae killer. Especially effective on bba that I agree.

But its effects as an organic carbon supplement, I don't see much effect. Maybe its because my tank is already running on pressurised CO2.

I think if you trying to run a small uninvasie fish tank without CO2 it's great. but not that cost effective.

It's active chemical component probably glutardehyde which is a poison so you might want to be careful with kids around.

It does what it says on the bottle when used as directed for a carbon source

I had a bloody mess when i started my 5 foot after i planted heavily with elodea and then tried to use excel.....found out later it's poisonous to elodea and some other plants which i don't remember

I'm using excel on both my tanks (4ft and a 1.5ft cube), I'm not religiously faithful in dosing it.. but it still causes my plants (those that require CO2 input) to grow, though not as crazily, but comfortably.

I've had it show side effects for Vallis though... they seem to brown away immediately after I dose, and when I stop dosing after a while, it starts creeping back again.. other than that, its safe for my fishes, shrimps, and most of the plants... Great replacement for Co2...

You won't get to see bubbling though... its 'non-carbonated'

I used to dose excel in my 10L tank when i first started planted, but it doesnt quite cut it since my plants were mostly moss+ hairgrass, so i've switch to DIY co2 and growth was quite substantially better.

Personally, excel is ideal for a moss/ferns tanks with low light.

What is Okie? You can't spell?
