Not stereotyping but just an interesting thought I had the other day. As I had met up with several apisto lovers, I found that they are very nice gentlemens. While some friend who are into cichlids are somewhat handsome hunks. And some friends who are into discus seem to be the intellective type.

There's a saying that goes:"Like pet, like owner..". Just like different kind of people prefers or are suited to different types of dogs because of their different personalities which characterized each breed.

Is that true for us, aquarium hobbyists then? Does the kind of fishes we keep or have a special liking, speak of the our personality? E.g. I like cichlids because they are tough, placid, fierce and beautiful. Which may suggest a personality of strength and vanity? Or I like discus because they are graceful and striking in beauty, which may speak of a gentle and elegant owner.

krkr... i should start branching into other cichlids liao..

apistoes are an expensive species to keep, so i would label apisto lovers like bene and simon as niche hobbyists with expensive taste.. []

think these days, we choose that particular fish/specimen because it looks nice or compliment a tank layout or tank size

    other than personal tastes,

often different personal encounters have a part to play too.

some ppl got to really like a certain group of fish because they had the opportunity to be exposed to the group at a certain point of time, and the interest grew.

if they have difference experiences, they may have different preferences till now.

For me, SA/CA cichlids are the ultimate freshwater fishes that I will always enjoy because they are placid and beautiful.

So what are some of these personality or experiences that you can identify with according to the fishes you are currently keeping?
