Unless you add a lot.. I can't find any different as i only add few spoons 3-4 of peat? But if you add blackwater extract sure to make your water blackish...

Anybody do a testing before on sera super peat? Like 1 spoon mix with 1 litre of water after few days the PH reading like?
    Very keen to know...

Check your water KH first. If its higher then 3, its not so easy to bring down the PH.

For rain water, it depends on the quality of the air also. If you stay at an area where pollution is high, then it might not be safe to use rain water. Pollutants in the air may also make rainwater acidic, hence the term "acid rain".

    Hi,
Well the most natural way is to refill evaporated water with distilled water and refilling it with distilled water after a water change. Of course with the help of CO2 addition to the water. In the long run, you will have what you want.

i'm thinking of putting a 9litre bag of ADA africana/malaya in my sump tank in the wet/dry section where the flow is a trickle and not a torrent. can anyone advise on the pros/cons of this method of lowering ph?

ada soil has very high ammonia content , and if you just add it to your sump , it may kill your fauna ... cycling takes around 3-4 weeks ...

Gex soil as well. This did lead me to believe if there is a need to dose ferts if there is already a high nutrient contents present.

Recommend that you use peat. Just put some in a cloth bag and let it soak in your sump, like a tea bag.

I have very hard water with a PH of 7.5-7.6 from the tap.
I filter tap water through 1 full bag(5 Liters) of pre-soaked peat, and 3Kg of activated carbon in a filter bucket.

This is to treat all incoming water before it goes into the tank.
I don't recommend putting the peat into your sump, as it is very problematic.
(Putting it in the sump will keep the water yellow/brown, and clog the filter.)
Using the prefilter method, the yellow coloration will last a week or two if setting up a new tank. Otherwise the water is very clear for me, even when adding new peat filtered water.
This prefilter works for 3-4 months for me before I change the peat, but I have a lot of tanks to fill.
