    i just bought some GEX soil ( red pack ) can anyone please advise if its the same as ADA soil , do i need to cycle it the way i do with ADA ?

    p.s - i;m using established filter , with established media + water .

    No issue with soil, except your filter media are not fully cycle yet.

    Hi Freshfish,
    Don't know what GEX officially advises, but I am using GEX soil (Green) in my 2.5ft tank, and on the first night of planting, have already put in 5 rasboras for cycling. They have all not died on me, and its already more than 22 days.

    Cycling depends if you are keeping a densely planted tank or not. Mature filter media hasten the cycling process however as there is already nutrifying bact populating those media, aiding in ammonia breakdown.

    if your filter media is pre-seeded, you're fine. I've started all my Gex tanks with pre-seeded media, and all of them have livestock go in on day 1...no issues at all
